Not long ago this past year Apostle Darryl G. McCoy Founder and Overseer of my church, Trumpet In Zion Fellowship Inc. preached the word of God in my hearing and he made a point that resonated with me. He said that, “One of the quickest way to have peace is to accept things.” He went on to make sho’ ‘nough example. “When you accept you don’t have the money you stop worrying about the bill. ” In other words let it go and trust God, having done all to stand. One of the hardest things to accept most times is God’s will when it is contrary to what our idea of what should be. Acceptance is not the easiest thing to discuss without sounding hypocritical for today’s society in that a lot of us hold different standards in our lifestyles. Of course if you’re here and following the movement I trust that we’re striving toward the same standard and that is the standard of acceptance we’re going to be looking at.
Since we’re talking about God’s standard there are things we know that we shouldn’t accept and things that we should. For example, we should not accept sin in our lives to where we stop fighting to live holy according to Romans 6:12 and we should accept the fact that if any man does sin we have an advocate with the Father whom is Jesus Christ the righteous according to 1 John:1. Also that if we confess our sin that He is faithful and just to forgive us according 1 John 1:9. Today is National day of acceptance and in order to understand what we should accept we need a clear understanding of what we should not. The line between can get blurry living in the world that we live in though it should be our foundation.
Over time things that were and are accepted in society has changed and will surely continue to change. There are tons of things acceptable in today’s society that were not fifty years ago and the same will more than likely be true in 2066. Views on what love is has changed. What society says a woman’s role is has changed as well as that of males. Change is inevitable in the world we live in. Do we accept everything being thrown at us?
Acceptance is the action of consenting to receive or undertake something offered. Sometimes acceptance is temporal but necessary to get to what comes next. Earlier this week we celebrated the legacy of the Great Reverend and Dr. Martin Luther King. The way that he operated in his mission was and is a great example of this kind of acceptance. Dr. King understood the time he lived in and knew how to go in and out amongst people respecting authority to the necessary degree yet not sitting on his hands. He was a man of strategy in that He did not act out of how the time He lived in made him feel. I’m sure He had his moments of frustration, but he walked in love and made that clear. He accepted his call and understood the boundaries of it and that though it could be looked at as a weak route to take that is was powerful. President Obama has done much of the same.
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
– Matthew 10:16
We have a lot of mixed feelings about the way this world is headed floating around, and though the Father has not given us a spirit of fear at times we do adopt the feeling. I am not oblivious to the fact that it happens. However, when we act out of fear we do things that do not help or sometimes worse, we do nothing. Sometimes it causes us to believe we must do something physical when we should do something spiritual first. (Romans 8 :14)
Do you have need to fight in this battle?
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God- Psalm 20:7
Sometimes accepting one’s current state is the first step to changing it. Whether it be a health issue or a hate issue. Acceptance does not always result in doom and gloom. Sometimes acceptance is what clears ones head and makes way for strategic and well thought out revolution without emotionalism and that next step having it’s foundation first in a more promising and vital acceptance and knowledge that is Jesus Christ reigns. One can see and think clearly when that is the foundation.
How Do I accept the cards I’m dealt whilst moving forward?
My last piece was about moving forward this new year after all of what last year brought us as both a nation and as individuals. Well, the key to moving forward from it is acceptance. If we took all the L’s last year we have got to accept it for what it was and as a result we may catch a few errors that can be corrected this year. Accepting the hurt we have gone through is part of the healing process. We still “can’t believe” what so and so done to us. Well, believe it honey and move past it. Don’t hoard pain. Forgive.
forget what they did.⇓
“Do not remember the former things,Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing,Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?”
.. but remember who He is.⇓
Remember the former things of old,For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things that are not yet done,Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
And I will do all My pleasure,’
Isaiah 46: 9-10
Do you love you for you?
You’ve probably never heard of January 20th as National Day of Acceptance, huh? This day was started from a very beautiful story you can read later by clicking the link in this paragraph. I wanted to share a smidge of my own journey with self acceptance. You know by now that I was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele. The 3ELOVE movement has been a huge blessing to me though it was not the cause of my journey to rethinking how I perceive myself it has been a great reinforcement because I have struggled a lot in my life with my esteem, being social and just over all and I am still a work in progress but I thank God for the come up y’all.
over the past year I’ve reached a place where I can say I finally have positive body image though it’s not as high as it could be. There used to be a time where I wasn’t even comfortable taking full body pictures. There was a time where I hated everything about myself so silently and subtly that it took a while for me to accept it for what it was. It was until then that I could begin to realize how fearfully and wonderfully made I am. That line used to sound so cliché. These really did it for me. I have decided to make moves toward competing for Miss Wheelchair in the near future. You can donate here. details are to come.
For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked – 1 corinthians 12:24
note : this one is speaking more so about the body of Christ and not about self image however it did resonate for me in that way.
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” 1 corinthians:26-31
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. – 1 corinthians15:44
I hope that this piece has caused you to do some evaluating and brought you a little peace and comfort as well. Love yourself the way God loves you. He loves you enough to cleanse you from unrighteousness. Cleanse yourself from your own disapproval and that of others while still walking in His standard toward them. Love them where they are because Christ has loved and does love you where you are.
Love who you are in Him.
Love who you are not in Him.
Change what you can.
Accept what you cannot.
A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.
