My experience attending very first Decatur/Huntsville VR GOOD Advisory Council meeting

On April 12th myself and one of my lovely State Coordinators Joanne Pearson ( Ms. Wheelchair Alabama 2012) attended my first Decatur/Huntsville VR GOOD Advisory council meeting at the Decatur Governor’s Office of Disability. I was pleased to be re-acquainted with the awesome Director of the Governor’s office of Disability Dr. Graham Sisson. I heard him speak in 2013 at the College Prep Class I took at UAH that was taught by another awesome guy by the name of Mr. Lamont Dupree.  Dr. Graham’s speech stuck with me all of these years and all of the great work he has done for persons living with disabilities.  One of my favorite lines from the speech was that he told us that ” you do not need a hand out, but rather a hand up. ”  It was such an honor to come in contact with him again and become a part of what is to come in the future.

I also met other wonderful people and we discussed many things needed in the disabled community moving forward from a financial stance with the ENable Savings Plan . Care givers and Service Providers are encouraged to attend the F R E E   session Thursday, April 27th at the Alabama Department REhabilitation Services (ADRS) Community Room at 3000 Johnson Rd Huntsville, Alabama at either 10-11:30am  OR 6-7:30pm.   A professional advisors Workshop on Enable Alabama will also be held Friday, April 28th 8am – 9am at the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce Auditorium 225 Church Street, Huntsville. 35801.  UCPHuntsville.org for more info.
